LVP that stays flat in kitchens, baths and basements
Vinyl plank flooring installation — LVP, or luxury vinyl plank — is the most common flooring job we do, because the product handles water, pets and basements better than anything with a wood core. It also forgives less than people think: thin vinyl telegraphs every dip and ridge in the floor beneath it.
So the work starts with the subfloor. We check it with a long straightedge, grind high spots and fill low ones, then plan the rows so the first and last courses are a decent width. The planks click together and float, with expansion space hidden under the trim.
What's included
- Old carpet, laminate or vinyl removed
- Subfloor checked with a straightedge, high spots ground and low spots filled
- Vinyl plank flooring installation with staggered joints
- Underlayment where the product calls for it
- Door jambs undercut so planks slide beneath
- Transitions to tile, carpet and other rooms
- Baseboard or quarter round reinstalled
- Closets included in the layout
Why LVP floors separate or feel soft
Click-lock planks hold together only when they lie flat. Over a dip in the subfloor the joint flexes every time someone steps on it, and after a few months it opens. Over a ridge the planks rock and click. Both are preparation problems, not product problems.
The other common failure is trapping the floor. Vinyl expands with heat — near a sunny window or over radiant heat it moves noticeably. Kitchen islands, heavy built-ins and tight trim pin it in place, and the floor peaks at the seams. We leave the gap the manufacturer specifies and keep fixed objects off the floating floor.
Rigid core and flexible vinyl
Rigid core (SPC or WPC) planks bridge small imperfections better and are easier to keep flat. Thinner flexible planks need a flatter base.
Basements
Concrete slabs need a vapor barrier unless the plank has one attached. We check the slab for moisture signs before laying the floor.
How long does vinyl plank installation take?
A bedroom-sized area is often done in a day once the old flooring is out. Kitchens take longer because of the cuts around cabinets and appliances. Leveling adds time, which is why we price from photos and rough measurements, then confirm on site before starting.
How it works
Measured before we start
1. Send photos
Two or three photos of the wall, door or floor and a line about what you want done. A tape measure in the shot helps.
2. Get the price
Pavlo texts you a clear price and the earliest date he can come. If something can only be judged in person, he says so up front.
3. Fixed and cleaned up
Neat work at the agreed time, the room left swept. Pay by cash, check or Zelle when it is done.

FAQ
Common questions
Can LVP go over tile?
Often, if the tile is flat and firmly bonded and the grout lines are not deep. Floor height at doors and appliances has to be checked.
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Usually around 10% over the room area for cuts. [ASK PAVLO] his own allowance for the layout.
Do I need to empty the room?
[ASK PAVLO] whether furniture moving is included.
