Tile work for small areas and repairs
Tile installation and repair at FixInch covers the smaller jobs: a powder-room or laundry floor, a kitchen backsplash, an entry, a few cracked tiles in an otherwise good floor, or grout that has cracked and stained. [ASK PAVLO] the largest area he takes on.
Tile is unforgiving of a moving base. Before setting new tile we check that the floor is stiff and flat, use the right backer, and leave movement joints at the edges. For repairs, we find out why a tile cracked — a hollow spot, a seam in the subfloor — before replacing it.
Tile work we take on
- Tile installation for small floors and entries
- Kitchen and bar backsplashes
- Cracked or loose tiles removed and replaced
- Grout raked out and renewed in small areas
- Tile repair around toilets and thresholds
- Silicone at corners and changes of plane
- Transitions where tile meets other flooring
- Sealing of grout where needed
Why tiles crack and grout fails
A tile cracks when it is not fully supported or when the floor under it bends. Thin-set applied in dabs instead of full coverage leaves hollow spots that break under a dropped object; a seam in the plywood below transfers movement straight up. Grout cracks for the same reason, and also when the joints were never filled with flexible caulk at the walls.
Left alone, cracked grout lets water under the tile, loosening the neighbors. One cracked tile becomes three.
Matching replacement tiles
Leftover tiles from the original job are ideal. Without them, a close match or a deliberate accent tile is the choice; we show you options from photos.
Backsplashes
Backsplash tile goes on clean, flat drywall with outlets and switches extended to sit flush with the new surface. [ASK PAVLO] electrical scope.
How long does tile work take?
Tile is a multi-day job by nature: thin-set cures before grouting, grout cures before sealing and heavy use. A small floor is often two visits; a few replacement tiles can be one visit plus a day of no walking on them.
How it works
Measured before we start
1. Send photos
Two or three photos of the wall, door or floor and a line about what you want done. A tape measure in the shot helps.
2. Get the price
Pavlo texts you a clear price and the earliest date he can come. If something can only be judged in person, he says so up front.
3. Fixed and cleaned up
Neat work at the agreed time, the room left swept. Pay by cash, check or Zelle when it is done.
