New board where the old board has to go
Drywall installation is the step beyond patching: when the board is soaked, crumbling or opened up for remediation, the damaged sheets come out and new gypsum goes in. One of our Thumbtack customers needed exactly this — partial walls replaced after water damage and remediation, then repaired and painted.
We hang new board to the existing framing, match its thickness to the wall around it, and tape and finish the seams in three coats so the new section reads as one flat wall with the old. [ASK PAVLO] whether he takes on full rooms or only partial walls and sections.
What's included
- Damaged drywall cut back to the nearest studs
- Framing checked for moisture and damage
- Drywall installation matched to existing thickness
- Moisture-resistant board in bathrooms and laundry rooms
- Seams taped and finished in three coats
- Corner bead on outside corners
- Sanded smooth and primed
- Painted to match on request
When patching is not enough
Gypsum board does not recover from soaking. Once wet through, it loses strength, sags, and can grow mold on the paper facing. Patches over that kind of damage fail; the right fix is to remove the board back to clean framing and hang new.
The same goes for walls opened for plumbing work or remediation. Rather than a patchwork of small pieces, we square the opening to the studs and install full-height pieces where possible, which gives fewer seams to finish and a flatter wall.
Matching an old wall
Older walls can be thicker or thinner than today’s standard board. We shim or select board so the new section sits flush with the old.
Bathrooms and basements
Wet areas get moisture-resistant board. [ASK PAVLO] which areas he prefers cement board for.
How long does drywall installation take?
Hanging the board is usually quick; finishing takes the time. Expect a hanging and first-coat day, then one or two short visits for the following coats, sanding and primer. The exact plan comes with the price.
How it works
Measured before we start
1. Send photos
Two or three photos of the wall, door or floor and a line about what you want done. A tape measure in the shot helps.
2. Get the price
Pavlo texts you a clear price and the earliest date he can come. If something can only be judged in person, he says so up front.
3. Fixed and cleaned up
Neat work at the agreed time, the room left swept. Pay by cash, check or Zelle when it is done.
