Laminate for dry rooms, done properly
Laminate flooring installation suits bedrooms, living rooms, offices and hallways — rooms that stay dry. Laminate has a tough wear layer that stands up to chairs and pets, and it costs less than many vinyl planks of the same look.
Its weak point is water. The core is compressed wood fiber, and it swells if it gets wet at the edges. That is why we keep laminate out of bathrooms and laundry rooms and pay attention to the underlayment, the expansion gap and the way the floor meets tile at kitchens and entries.
What's included
- Old flooring removed and subfloor swept clean
- Foam or combination underlayment laid and taped
- Laminate flooring installation with joints locked tight
- Rows planned so the last course is not a sliver
- Expansion gap kept at all walls
- T-moldings and reducers at doorways
- Baseboard or quarter round reinstalled
- Stair landings — [ASK PAVLO]
Why laminate floors buckle or swell
Laminate moves with humidity. In a humid August a room of laminate grows; in a dry heated January it shrinks. Without a gap at the walls, the floor has nowhere to go and lifts in a ridge. With water at the joints — a dishwasher leak, a wet dog, a mop left too wet — the edges swell and stay raised.
Good installation handles the first problem completely and limits the second: gaps at every wall and doorframe, underlayment with a moisture barrier over concrete, and transitions that keep spills from running under the edge.
Underlayment choice
Some laminate has pad attached; adding a second pad under it makes the floor bounce and is not what the maker recommends. Others need a separate underlayment. We follow the product instructions.
Laminate or vinyl plank
If the room ever gets wet, choose vinyl plank. For dry rooms, laminate gives a harder surface for the money.
How long does laminate installation take?
Laminate goes down quickly once the base is ready — a typical bedroom in a day. Some products need to acclimate in the room for a day or two first, so we tell you when to have the boxes delivered.
How it works
Measured before we start
1. Send photos
Two or three photos of the wall, door or floor and a line about what you want done. A tape measure in the shot helps.
2. Get the price
Pavlo texts you a clear price and the earliest date he can come. If something can only be judged in person, he says so up front.
3. Fixed and cleaned up
Neat work at the agreed time, the room left swept. Pay by cash, check or Zelle when it is done.

FAQ
Common questions
Can laminate go in a kitchen?
It can, with water-resistant laminate and care at the sink and dishwasher, but vinyl plank or tile are safer choices.
Is laminate loud?
A good underlayment reduces the hollow sound. Ask about acoustic underlayment for upstairs rooms.
